It’s that time of year again when our thoughts turn to all of the people that have helped us, listened to us, encouraged us, waved at us, and glanced our way! Yep..it’s courteous gift giving season! Grab your adorable little boxes and bags folks, it’s time to acknowledge!
And nothing says “thank you, I noticed, I’m not a jerk” quite like a sweet, crunchy, delicious treat! My favorite thing to give away is Toffee. Fresh, almost warm, chocolaty slabs of nutty and creamy English Toffee! My version has a hint of Bourbon throughout each crunchy bite, because that’s how I do it..lol, but that’s totally optional! 🙂
Most people like to break it up into little chunks, but I like a “WOW” factor. So I give this out as large slabs with a cute little hammer…then everyone can bust it up however they like, and have an interactive and one-of-a-kind Tipsy Toffee Treat..SO much fun!
Here’s what you’ll need (double/triple for MORE):
1 cup butter (only real butter can be used in this recipe)
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water (OR BOURBON!) << that’s right! 🙂
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 semi-sweet chocolate baking squares or 1/2 cup chocolate chips
1 cup coarsely broken Almonds (OR your favorite Nuts)
Here’s how you do it!
In heavy saucepan, combine butter, sugar, water, and salt.
Cook to hard-crack stage (300°F) stirring constantly and watching carefully.
Immediately pour into ungreased 13″x9″ pan.
Cool until hard.
Melt chocolate over hot, but not boiling water.
Spread over toffee; sprinkle with nuts, pressing them into chocolate.
Let stand 2-3 hours or chill 30 minutes.
Break into bite-size pieces, or large slabs
PS..When everyone shows up to my house for the Holidays, they’re greeted at the door with this mountain of magnificence on the entry table! They all get cute bags (that I used as their place cards at the table) and as they leave, they can all grab their own chunks!
~Memorable and fun! ~Enjoy! 🙂
