This recipe was inspired by my curiosity for deep fried butter (..sad, I know) and quickly took on a life of its own. As curiosity became reality.. reality quickly became AWESOME..with BUTTER, of course, and the sweet addition of maple, cinnamon & powdered sugar. 🙂
I know this is a bold statement but, I do believe that these balls could quite possibly be even better than the traditional ‘fried butter balls’. Maybe it’s because these are um – – 90% butter, but whatever..lol!
~These balls are light, they’re flavorful and fun..but it’s the maple drizzle that really takes them from amazing to Ahhh~mazzing!
This little treat won’t be forgotten by anyone who tries them and you could possibly be attacked for the recipe, so be prepared. They’re THAT good!
And SOOooo simple! They’re moist, tender and filled with buttery goodness that literally melts in your mouth.
~Make LOTS!
What you’ll need:
The butter-ball batter:
2 cups ap flour
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 large egg
oil for frying..I used canola
The filling: (optional)
Top with more maple syrup..optional!
Directions:
In a large bowl combine the batter ingredients and mix well to combine, it will be a thick, dough-like consistency…
In a medium bowl mix up the filling:
Combine the filling ingredients until smooth and set aside…
Fry up approx. 1 tbsp. or so of the dough at a time in hot (350 degree) oil until they’re golden on all sides and cooked through.
Let them cool and fill them with a squirt of the buttery brown sugar filling…
Now you can serve them up…
Maybe another small drizzle of Maple Syrup just because…
And/OR some powdered sugar…
Either way, get them onto your plate…
And into your lips! ~Enjoy! 🙂
