Yikes! I just dusted off this amazing, long lost dessert recipe, and what a shame that it got buried under all of the trendy awesome, ‘Stuffed Cookies’ & ‘Doughnut Pan’ recipes..haha! 🙂
I’m ashamed that I let that happen, because this goody is a potluck shining star, an office party ninja, a relationship repairer..heck, if Chuck Norris were a dessert, he’d be Orangies..LOL! These offer the most incredible combination of sweet/tangy orange & moist/brownie-like cake, such a perfect dessert!
Yet sadly it was forgotten, it was reduced to a faded, dusty piece of paper in the very back of that old recipe book..and I’m going to make it up to them! After all the good times these amazing, and drop-dead delicious Orangies have given to me, it’s only fair that I bring them to life again, by eating the whole pan sharing the recipe with you! 🙂
What happens when the fresh citrus flavor of an orange & the fluffy, chewyness of a brownie fall in love? Yep..Orangies!
Oranges + Brownies = <3 Love !
They’re simple enough that all I’m going to say is go make them..see for yourself how incredible they are, and get back to me. Words just don’t exist to describe their ‘epicness’! You’ll totally understand what I mean when you try them!!
‘They’ll change your life’ < {{Oprah Voice}} 😉
What you’ll need:
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 cup butter (2 sticks)
4 eggs
2 tsp. pure orange extract
1 tsp. grated orange zest
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp. orange juice
1 tsp. grated orange zest (save a little zest for the sugar/zest topping..optional)
Directions:
Grease a 13x9x2 inch pan and set aside
In a med mixing bowl, stir together the flour, sugar and salt. Add the butter, eggs, orange extract & orange zest and beat well to combine.
Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until it’s light golden brown and set. Remove from the oven and poke holes throughout the cake with a fork.
For the Glaze Mix:1 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp. orange juice
1 tsp. grated orange zest (save a little zest for the sugar/zest topping..optional)
Pour the glaze all over the cake until it’s soaked and irresistibly glossy! 🙂
Sprinkle the top with the sugar/zest mix!
Let it set up for as long as you can stand it, cut them into squares..and then savour a warm, sticky, ooey-gooey Orangie! You’ll need a moment to yourself! ~Enjoy! 🙂
LOL! Chuck Norris! I love it. This sounds delicious, the name fits it perfectly! Full of orangey goodness, yum!!
How do you make the glaze?
I just made it a bit more clear! …thank you! 🙂
Hi would it still taste orangey enough if I replace the extract with vanilla? Or is that what gives it most of the orange flavor? I’m asking because I am so in love with Orange creamsicles and would like to try making this orangie goodness with that twist. Thank you in advance!
I think so, and the Vanilla would give it that creamy taste!
What temperature do you bake them at?
350 🙂
What cup measurements are you using? Is it US?
Yes..US! 🙂
I have this very same recipe, but it’s with lemon instead of orange. They make very tart lemon brownies. Can’t wait to try the orange!!!
