I HAD to…I just had to! Come on now, I was in the mood to have some whimsical holiday bacon fun, and I may or may not have been dared to make this…lol! But, this isn’t just incredibly unique and festive..it’s also delicious and will quite possibly be the BEST appetizer you serve this entire season!
It’s a centerpiece, it’s a conversation starter, it’s a one of a kind nibble, and giggle all in one! And this little piggy tree packs a punch, featuring 3 pounds of bacon, 1 cup of frosting and lots and lots of self control! It comes together super easily and the constent smell of bacon throughout your house will have everyone in awe…waiting, drooling…hypnotized by this edible artwork you’re so generously going to bestow on them.
Set this onto your table, and count the seconds until it’s gone..trust me!
What you’ll need for one (5″ base, 6″ tall) bacon tree:
3 pounds of bacon..thin sliced
1-2 cups of Vanilla OR Maple frosting a.k.a glue and garnish. You can also go in a savory direction and use Cream Cheese as the glue, with all kinds of other edible decorations! 🙂
..add any edible treats for decorating that you like..I used green sixlets and sprinkles for the sweet version!
A mini muffin tin to cook up the bacon balls.
Directions:
Cut the bacon strips equally in half, and place each slice into the muffin tin in a ball shape.
Bake them at 350 for approx. 20 minutes, or until the bacon balls are crispy, and golden.
Remove them from the pan and let them cool.
Form your base with a circle of bacon balls, and start building up, using a dab of frosting for the “glue” that will hold each layer together.
Decorate the tree however you’d like, which I’m almost positive will look better than mine..LOL!
Let it dry for about a hour before serving.
Then place that glorious tree on the table and let everyone chop it down! ~Enjoy! 🙂
I would make it and then drizzle it with a maple syrup.
OMG…..perfection! 😀 XXX
This is the ultimate Buche de Noel!
Bravo! And Yum!
Drizzle warm milk chocolate on it, then serve with beer or single-malt whiskey(water on the sides).
OMG I beyond love you right now! My yoga pants hate you but we can hide them! You SO made my Christmas!
Merry Christmas and Best Kitchen Wishes!
HAHA…thank you, and Merry Christmas to you as well! 🙂
Oh, my…lol…I do believe I’ve seen everything now! Serve with a side dish of Lipitor, and 911 on the speed dial, and you have it made!…lol! Surely a man came up with this invention, yes?
Cream cheese with jalapeno slices.
Sprinkle with paprika or cayenne, perhaps cut up pimento?
I actually made one today! Wish I could post a picture on here 🙂 I used green and red M & Ms plus white frosting and red and green sprinkles – came out quite good, and I used regular sized muffin tins with full sized pieces of bacon wrapped in balls.
This would be so good with Maple Buttercream frosting!
Thickened mayonnaise with tomatoes. lettuce, and toasted croutons
