Out of all the wacky, crazy and tasty things I’ve ever fried (and there have been LOTS..lol)..this, ..THIS one is my favorite and best tasting crazy creation to date! AND it’s not even that crazy! At least, in my world it isn’t..haha! 🙂
Each ruby red, sweet & spicy Sriracha nugget is so amazingly flavored and perfectly balanced, that I’m almost at a loss for words to describe the magnitude of wonderful that IS this recipe! 🙂
The Sriracha is mellowed out by the flash frying process and what’s left behind is a beautiful combination of slightly spicy, nutty, sweet tender, crispy, cornbread bites of serious, succulent, Sriracha goodness!
Dip them into some cool Blue Cheese, or Ranch and BOOM~ You are an instant hero of your house! 🙂
~Make TONS…trust me! 🙂
What you’ll need:
1-15 oz. box of cornbread mix
3/4 cup Sriracha
1/3 cup veg oil
1 egg
Oil for frying..I used Canola
Blue Cheese or Ranch dressing for dipping..celery for some cool-crunching..optional!
Directions:
In a medium bowl combine the cornbread mix, oil, egg, and Sriracha. Mix until well combined… it should be a thick batter~ adjust accordingly if necessary!
Drop approx. 1 tsp. of the batter into the hot (350 degree) oil, until they’re puffed, and evenly golden. The correct oil temperature, is critical here for a good result with this recipe! They will firm up and crisp up as they cool, but the oil needs to be just about perfect to achieve a done center! (Not that there’s really anything wrong with a bit of a gooey center..IMO!) 🙂
Serve them up with some dips for um..dipping!
And get to grabbing, popping, and LOVING! ~Enjoy! 🙂
I mean, this looks amazing, but let’s understand that with the headline “Deep Fried Sriracha”, they might not be what one would expect.
…these are hushpuppies. Might as well just make Srirancha and dip them in that.
I like to have fun with catchy and unique titles. The unexpected keeps it interesting..it brought you here right?! 🙂
Honestly, I hate ‘click bait’. If you have to fall to that low to get viewers on your site, improve your content, don’t create outlandish titles. You certainly lost a viewer of your site with me.
I’m so sorry that you feel that way. The Sriracha is indeed fried.
Beware, as you’re enjoying other food sites, be sure to steer clear of “Dessert Lasagnas” and “Snickers Salad”..as well as many other ‘play on words’, recipes..so as to not get “baited” again. It’s all in good fun around here, so sorry you took it so seriously! Best to you!
People have nothing better to do except complain. But the title brought me to your site. And they were delicious. I call em hushy puppies with a kick.
What a douche! Go watch Rachel Ray then. You won’t be missed.
Goodbye Jeremy! Your move is better for everyone in the neighborhood. I did like the title, and I am so glad it drew me in to get the recipe. Don’t let the mouse hit ya on the way out!
Love the concept, but we don’t do deep fryers in our house. Alternatives, please? Yes, I’m quite aware that the title IS “Deep Fried”, but what I’m wondering is if spraying with oil and baking at a high temp will yield an acceptable substitute?
I think it can be done. Simply bulk up the batter with more flour, making it like a biscuit…then you can bake them up! Let me know how it goes! 🙂
Get a pot and do it up on the stove like normal? If this is the first time doing it on the stove I recommend unlocking your kitchen window.. My mom always does it on the stove unless it is for turkey or wings.
I added some finely diced Pepper Jack cheese to the recipe and call these my Hush Your Mouth Puppies! 😛
Ooo..YUM!
I followed this recipe and honestly failed. I tried it again with hushpuppy mix and success!! My husband loved them! He is the only lover of sriracha in this house. He enjoyed his with blue cheese dip. Thanks for the recipe. I’m not sure why the cornbread mix didnt work, but the hushpuppy mix was super simple 🙂
Tried this – followed your instructions to the letter – when put into hot oil, the mixture disintegrated and no amount of adjusting would work. Too bad – they looked like a good idea but no way we could make it work
Well I tried the recipe, it totally disintegrated, no matter the temperature adjustments. So I added about 3 Tbs. Of flour and baked at 375 in mini muffins for 15 minutes. Amazing results!!!
